What does graduated compression actually mean?

What does graduated compression actually mean?

Graduated compression is not the same as simply wearing something tight.

The pressure is designed to be strongest around the lower leg and gradually decrease as it moves upward. That change in pressure is what makes it graduated.

Why the pressure changes

Blood in your legs has to travel upward against gravity.

Graduated compression is designed to provide more support lower on the leg, where it is needed most, while using progressively less pressure higher up.

The aim is supportive pressure — not squeezing the entire leg equally.

What does mmHg mean?

Compression levels are measured in mmHg, or millimeters of mercury.

A higher number means a higher level of compression. Comfylegs uses 15–21 mmHg graduated compression, designed for everyday support through work, travel and long periods on your feet.

What should it feel like?

Compression should feel noticeably supportive and snug, especially around the lower leg.

It should not feel painfully tight, cause numbness or create new discomfort. Correct sizing matters, and anyone with circulation concerns or a medical condition should speak with a healthcare professional before using compression garments.
