THE SCIENCE

Support, explained simply.

Graduated compression is designed to apply firmer pressure lower on the leg and progressively less pressure higher up. Comfylegs uses 15–21 mmHg graduated compression for everyday support. On this page, we’ll explain how that pressure profile works, what studies have found about graduated compression, and how pressure is checked during production.

PRESSURE TESTING

Pressure, checked in production.

This image shows pressure testing during production review. A dedicated testing machine is used to measure the pressure produced by the garment, giving the team objective data rather than relying on feel alone.

For graduated compression, measuring pressure is essential to checking whether the garment performs as intended.

HOW IT WORKS

Why pressure changes along the leg.

Firmer lower down

Graduated compression is designed to apply its greatest pressure around the lower leg, where support begins.

Gradually lighter higher up

The pressure then decreases progressively as it moves upward, creating the graduated profile that distinguishes it from garments that simply feel tight.

Measured in mmHg

Compression strength is measured in mmHg, or millimeters of mercury. Comfylegs uses 15–21 mmHg graduated compression for everyday support.

RESEARCH

What studies have found about graduated compression.

Improved leg comfort over four weeks

In a four-week study of flight attendants, lightweight graduated compression hosiery improved discomfort, fatigue, aching and leg tightness compared with no compression. Swelling also showed improvement.

Reduced leg swelling during the working day

In a study of 58 working adults, 15–20 mmHg elastic compression stockings significantly reduced occupational leg swelling during prolonged sitting, standing and combined working positions compared with no compression.

IN PRACTICE

Support for the hours that add up.

Long periods of sitting, standing and travel can add up over the course of a day. Graduated compression is designed to provide consistent support through those hours, without asking you to change how you dress or move through your routine.

That’s where Comfylegs fits: everyday support built around a simple, measurable principle.
