Why do your legs feel heavy at the end of the day?

Why do your legs feel heavy at the end of the day?

Some days, your legs simply feel different by evening.

They may feel tired, heavy, puffy or less comfortable than they did that morning. Long periods of standing can contribute, but so can sitting at a desk, travelling or staying in one position for too long.

Why it happens

Blood returning from your legs has to move upward against gravity.

Walking helps because the muscles in your calves contract and assist blood flow back toward the heart. When you sit or stand relatively still for long periods, those muscles are less active.

For some people, that can contribute to fluid collecting in the lower legs — which may feel like heaviness, puffiness or tighter shoes later in the day.

Small movements can help

You don’t need a complicated routine.

Walking for a few minutes, changing position and flexing your ankles and feet can help keep your calf muscles active.

It can also be useful to notice when your legs tend to feel different: after a desk day, a long shift, a flight or several hours on your feet.

Where graduated compression fits

Graduated compression is different from clothing that simply feels tight.

It is designed with more compression lower on the leg and gradually less pressure higher up.

Comfylegs uses 15–21 mmHg graduated compression, designed for everyday support through work, travel and long days on your feet.

Movement still matters, and persistent or unexplained swelling or discomfort should be discussed with a healthcare professional.

For the longer days

Sometimes the most useful approach is simply recognizing which days ask more of your legs — and building movement and appropriate support into those days from the beginning.
